The German Embassy is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of Green Screen - The Environmental Film Festival 2016. It was therefore the logical next step to host, again, the media launch for the festival at the Ambassadors residence.
In his brief speech the Ambassador mentioned that this years motto “Films for a better place” relates closely to other recent diplomatic activities. Namely the Caribbean Challenge Initiative (St. Lucia), seeking to enable sustainable finance for the protection of maritime and marine areas and reconciling ecology and economy. And the EU-Caribbean Sustainable Energy Conference in Barba

dos last week, encouraging the countries of the region to an energy shift.
Furthermore since October 5th, Germany is a party to the Paris Agreement. On the same day the European Parliament has voted by an overwhelming majority to approve the agreement as well. After all, raising awareness for climate change is
a key political goal for Germany as of the 28 EU member states 24 have an oceanic coast themselves. To close he mentioned other German intitiatives in the region:
· Caribbean Aqua Terrestrial Solutions (CATS)
· Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance (REETA)
· Protection and sustainable use of tropical rainforests (Guyana)
· Partnership with the Pointe-a-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust to raise awareness about climate change
